Shopping during the holidays can be confusing! From bold signs stating" lowest price around!", to Black Friday sales starting a month before the actual Black Friday date, the question still remains, "Am I getting the best price?"

When you see a price tag that reads "75% off", this seems like an amazing deal! Anything over 50% is extremely appealing. 

However, this should be a red flag to every consumer! One important question to ask yourself when you encounter such a significant discount is, "By what margin has the retailer marked up in order to give this kind of discount?" Unfortunately, this tempting discount is one that needs to be questioned, especially during a time of year when saving is essential!

Another confusing part of the Black Friday, Cyber Monday sales is the amount of time the sales go on for. "The Sale isn't over."

As sales continue to run, or get extended, it leaves us questioning when a better sale will come. Also, if every week there is a sale, that sale price (a price that has been marked up to be marked down) is now considered the normal price since it is constantly being offered. 

The only way that retailers can have sales every week is if they have marked up their prices high enough to provide a discount in perpetuity.

It's important to comparison shop and pay attention to the details of items (for example: engagement ring diamond carat weight, color, clarity, gold karat, etc.) and their prices to determine which is the better offer.
